Terrain-Based Learning Comes to Rikert
This winter, Rikert Outdoor Center is proud to introduce something entirely new to our Nordic experience: Terrain-Based Learning (TBL). Designed to make learning cross-country skiing more intuitive, engaging, and fun, TBL uses purpose-built snow features—like rollers, banked turns, and gentle slopes—to help skiers naturally develop balance, control, and confidence.
Instead of relying on traditional, lecture-style instruction, Terrain-Based Learning lets the terrain do the teaching. Skiers move through a series of thoughtfully shaped snow elements that encourage skill progression through movement and play. It’s a method that’s been proven to reduce fear and frustration while dramatically increasing enjoyment and early success.
From a customer’s perspective, the benefits are clear:
-
Faster learning through movement-based discovery
-
More fun, less fear thanks to terrain that guides and supports each step
-
Confidence-building with immediate, tangible progress
-
Perfect for all ages and ability levels, especially families and first-timers
-
A memorable, joyful introduction to Nordic skiing
Rikert is the only Nordic center in the region offering this type of learning environment—and we believe it’s a game-changer. Whether you’re brand new to skiing or just looking to gain confidence before hitting the trails, Terrain-Based Learning offers a welcoming, empowering way to get started.
Come experience cross-country skiing in a whole new way—where the trail teaches, and the fun begins right away.
